How Stream AI Was Built

Stream AI started as a question: "What if your camera could tell you what a trainer sees?" Most fitness tech tracks steps or heart rate — passive metrics that don't help you lift better. The thing that actually improves your training is knowing, in real time, when your form breaks.

"Most people who lift weights have never once gotten real-time form feedback. That's the gap we're closing."

The first version used a machine learning classifier trained on synthetic movement data. It failed — the model learned camera artifacts, not biomechanics, and classified every real-world rep as "good form." So we went back to the drawing board.

The current system uses geometric rules derived from biomechanics literature: specific joint angle thresholds, segment alignment constraints, and phase detection logic for each of the 11 supported exercises. It's the same class of approach used by physical therapy software and sports science labs — but running in a browser tab.

Stream AI is being built by Seth Cohen under Stream AI Research LLC, as part of an entrepreneurship program pursuing an early-stage technology grant. The goal isn't just a product — it's a platform that removes the expertise barrier from strength training.

Real-World Data Collection & Model Training

Using the live app to collect real landmark sequences with quality scores. Training regression models on actual user data (not synthetic) for each exercise to achieve 94%+ accuracy on real-video form classification.

Mobile App & Expanded Exercise Library

Native iOS/Android app with offline pose detection. Expanding from 11 exercises to 30+. Cable machines, Olympic lifts, bodyweight movements. AI-generated personalized programs.
